<image:caption>Lie down with feet on the floor and knees bent toward the ceiling. Imagine a balloon in your ribcage and another in your pelvis. Inhale visualizing your ribcage balloon and then your pelvic balloon inflate. Guide your breath to expand and deepen your pelvic bowl, so the base of your pelvis feels like it’s moving toward your feet. Exhale completely so you feel your abdomen hug inward imagining your pelvic and ribcage balloons deflate as your pelvic floor muscles shorten, lift and dome toward your belly. Practice Ribcage and Pelvic Balloon Breathing for one minute or more in this position. Once you have the feel of it, practice this throughout your day and in all positions. Soon normal breathing will include the natural movement of your pelvic floor muscles.</image:caption>

<image:caption>In this posture you’re lying on your front side and the floor, bed or couch inhibits the expansion of your belly redirecting the movement of breathing down into the pelvis to facilitate Pelvic Breathing Lie on your abdomen. Stack your hands and rest your forehead on them. You can also rest your forehead on a pillow or a block, with a rolled blanket under your upper chest, or in any comfortable position. Breathe deeply and notice any movement in your pelvis or at the base of your pelvis. Does anything feel different compared to Ribcage and Pelvic Balloon Breathing or your first test breath?</image:caption>

<image:title>Writings | Emily Light Yoga - What is Non-Duality in Yoga? Dualism and Non-Dualism - WHAT IS DUALITY AND NON-DUALITY?</image:title>
<image:caption>Duality is the experience of separateness. Non-duality is the experience of interconnectedness. Duality and non-duality refer to different philosophies regarding the how aspects of life are either separate or interconnected, respectively. DUALITY VS. NON-DUALITY Duality is the experience of separateness. Non-duality is the experience of interconnectedness. Dualism refers to two separate aspects of reality: pure awareness (purusha) and nature (prakriti).</image:caption>

<image:title>Writings | Emily Light Yoga - What is Non-Duality in Yoga? Dualism and Non-Dualism</image:title>
<image:caption>DUALISM VS NON-DUALISM Dual philosophy states that pure awareness and nature are separate entities. In non-dual philosophy there is only Supreme Reality, and there is no separation of pure awareness and nature. Dualism recognizes the individual self (atman) as separate from the absolute (brahman), just as purusha is viewed as separate from prakriti. Non-dualism recognizes the oneness of brahman and atman and the oneness of purusha and prakriti.</image:caption>

<image:title>Writings | Emily Light Yoga - Svadhyaya – Self-Study - When I finally decided to see my physical therapist, she gave me a practice to do in bed before I got up in the morning. This practice takes 2-3 minutes - it’s super simple and effective. On the days that I felt fairly calm and relaxed, I felt well, pretty relaxed about doing this short thing for my body in the morning. It didn’t feel like a big deal - just a few minutes of some bed yoga, and I was ready to go.</image:title>
<image:caption>On the days that I felt overwhelmed, I would start spinning out about how I was going to need to do this every morning for the rest of my life, or I would catastrophize about how the inflammation of the fascia was probably a sign of a bigger systemic inflammation, and I should probably get on that anti-inflammatory diet and try to remember to take my fish oil. Anyone else? Just me? Paying attention to our experience is svadhyaya yoga, a foundational component of the practice of yoga.</image:caption>

<image:caption>PRACTICE WITH UDANA VAYU Ride the experience of "expressing" Exhale / Recheka: In the second half of your exhale, udana utilizes the positive energy from receiving, digesting and circulating prana and nutrients, and eliminating wastes for expression Postures, Breath and Mindfulness that usher Prana upward I encourage you to lean into these vayus, their movements and actions, and to continue to grow your awareness of them. You may find that one vayu speaks to you and your needs at a certain point in your day, month or year. Our bodies, minds and hearts are expressing their needs all of the time... the practice is to continue waking up to that which is right in front of us. Additional reading: Yoga and Ayurveda: Self-healing and self-realization by David Frawley * Holding your Breath / Retention Guidelines: There are certain times that we don't want to hold the breath in, as this practice increases pressure in the body cavities. Refrain from this breathing practice if any of the following apply: high blood pressure, glaucoma, hernia, pregnancy, diastasis recti, prolapse, or any other pressure sensitive circumstance.</image:caption>

<image:title>Yoga Therapy | Emily Light Yoga - What is Yoga Therapy?</image:title>
<image:caption>When life throws you curveballs, yoga’s here to help. Whether that curveball is an achy hip or pelvic pain, a prolonged period of stress, or your sleep got off track, Yoga Therapy offers a personalized approach to support your unique needs. Yoga Therapy is a holistic system of wellness. Drawing from ancient practices combined with our modern understanding of science, Yoga Therapy includes postures, breathing exercises, mindfulness tools and meditation, practical application of yoga philosophy, and Ayurveda, to foster healing and growth. In times of stress, such as an injury or a spike in anxiety, and in times of rest, such as having the space to build balance or strength, this customized therapeutic guidance will help you thrive.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Yoga Therapy | Emily Light Yoga - Hi, I’m Emily.</image:title>
<image:caption>I’m a certified Yoga Therapist and a presenter with The 3 Doors, an organization rooted in the Tibetan Bön Dzogchen tradition. I offer one-on-one yoga and meditation sessions tailored to you. In our work together, we will co-create simple practices and strategies to enhance your mobility and resiliency, and to reduce stress and discomfort. With mindful yoga therapy and Bön meditation, I will meet you where you are, and walk with you along the way. (Certified by the International Association of Yoga Therapists, publisher of the International Journal of Yoga Therapy.)</image:caption>

<image:title>Yoga Therapy | Emily Light Yoga - Yoga Therapy or Physical Therapy?</image:title>
<image:caption>Is Yoga Therapy the same as Physical Therapy? This is a question I get asked a lot. Physical Therapy and Yoga Therapy are both methods of addressing injuries and conditions with exercises and manual therapies. Similar to Physical Therapy, in my Yoga Therapy practice I utilize tools such as resistance bands and Yoga Therapy Balls for massage and balance, and I resource the science of neuromechanics, strength and mobility conditioning. Where these modalities differ is that Yoga Therapy continues offering support beyond the physical layer. Yoga Therapy looks at each individual holistically, and includes postures, breathing exercises, mindfulness tools, as well as the practical application of yoga philosophy and Ayurveda. My intention as a Yoga Therapist is to incorporate the traditional teachings of yoga into our modern lives, and to celebrate both science and spirit. A Yoga Therapy session begins with a conversation about the areas in your life that you want support in. Whether that’s managing anxiety and pain, or building strength in your hips or shoulders, the tools of yoga are vast. Our work together will be unique to you and your needs. You get to show up as you are, and I’ll be there with you.</image:caption>

<image:title>Donation Based Yoga Online | Emily Light Yoga</image:title>
<image:caption>My two weekly livestream classes are donation-based. I’m delighted to be able to support our community members whose resources and needs vary by offering accessible yoga classes. The donation-based model is a community-supported model, allowing people who are experiencing financial hardship to join class at a reduced rate or at no cost, while those who are financially stable or have a little extra help out by donating at the “Suggested Donation” or “Pay It Forward” levels. This community-supported model is a powerful way to practice. By joining forces we’re able to lift each other up, and also receive support. The folks who join these classes are dedicated, warm and welcoming. Many of us have been practicing together for a decade or more and it’s a true joy to be with such an incredible sangha. I strive to offer the best yoga online I can. I aim to re-create the in-person experience online by offering individualized guidance, as well as before and after class check-in’s and conversation. Real connection, intimacy and the therapeutic effects of yoga are available to us in this online platform.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Each week I teach two donation-based online yoga classes. During class I demonstrate some postures, and I also teach from my computer at times (not demonstrating), so I can see more details and offer specific guidance. This creates a container of connection and support, like we have when we practice in-person. My classes are informed by the lunar cycle, the season of the year, and the needs of those practicing with me. You’ll be surprised at just how good your online yoga can feel.</image:caption>
